Bio

Alex Van Sant (they/he) is a Boston-based composer, conductor, and singer whose work is imbued with a deep attentiveness to text, ritual, inheritance, and historical dialogue. His pieces blend his love of choral music, sacred music, and folk music with contemporary classical techniques and sensibilities. They value collaboration with performers and poets, working with both contemporary and historical textual sources. They have participated in the UIUC Choral Conducting Symposium, Walden School Creative Musician’s Retreat, and Choral Chameleon Composer’s Institute, and his music has been performed in MA, VT, IL, NY, NH, and Quebec.

The former Assistant Conductor of the Middlebury College Community Chorus, Alex holds a Bachelor of Music from McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, with a concentration in Classical Voice and minors in Religious Studies and Choral Conducting. He currently sings at St. Peter’s episcopal Church in Cambridge, MA and is pursuing a Master of Music in composition at Longy School of Music of Bard College with Alexandra Du Bois.
